The Sphinx Boss Guide
ReportedThe Sphinx
A plague-mutated beast encounter, judging by the name and the game's bestiary framing.
Full game
Not a Cat Person
Defeat the Sphinx.
The Sphinx is confirmed by trophy list only. Its trophy, "Not a Cat Person", is the kind of wry, mechanical joke developers attach to an animal-shaped boss. Pre-release material describes most bosses as deeply plague-mutated humanoids with enhanced physical ability and a distinct combat quirk, so a quadruped or beast-form encounter is a reasonable expectation rather than a fact.

Threats and how to answer them
Closing pounce
InferenceTell: theorycraft: a distance-closing leap.
Answer: Dash, do not block. Shield Transmutation is confirmed to absorb and return, but a pounce is better avoided than eaten.
The approach
Before you walk in
- Equip for mobility. The demo's confirmed dash and wall-run tools are free repositioning.
The loop that wins
- Let the boss commit, punish the recovery, then move. Beasts punish standing still.
What loses the fight
- Do not assume a humanoid duel. If the hitbox is a body rather than a blade, spacing rules change.
Weaknesses and loadout
What it is weak to
- theorycraft: beast-form encounters in this game reward mobility over guard pressure
Suggested loadout
- Melee
- Whatever has the fastest recovery, not the highest damage
- Firearm
- Pistol for safe chip damage during its approach
- Transmutation
- Fire for burn-over-time while you reposition
- Amber
- Any. Nothing in the confirmed record makes this fight build-dependent.
Rewards
- Not a Cat Person trophy / achievement
Enemies in this encounter
Howler
ConfirmedDo not get surrounded. Break the pack apart with area damage or Stasis, then kill them one at a time from a clean angle.
